Garage List
2011.5 BMW M3  [10.00]
2004 BMW M3  [10.00]
C&D- 2014 10Best Cars- 23 years for BMW

The BMW F3X 3/4-Series makes it to Car and Driver magazine's 10Best list for 2014.
This marks the 23rd year for the 3-series and a debut win for the 4-series coupe.

Quote:
From the start, the 1977 BMW E21 3er and its successors have been built the way common-sense enthusiasts would build their cars. The axle loads are nearly equal on a trim and tidy rear-drive platform with exactly enough room to serve practical needs. No inches or pounds are wasted, and nothing but an inline engine will do. Even as others have yielded to the temptations of a V-6 or front-drive, with their inherent packaging benefits, BMW has stuck to its formula.

Just read the article... How credible is this Car and Driver magazine...... They are happy that the manual is a free option, what a great deal, you're paying the same as an AT and you get a manual.

Their only recommended options: heated seats, driver assistance.... Alright!!

And apparently it has now become a crime to have a black or white BMW.

The only cars I want now would be in grey or white.

The sarcastic nature of addressing certain viewpoints in automotive journalism is obviously well beyond your comprehension.

Enough with the personal attacks. That goes for everyone.

Seeing way too much of that around here lately. You don't like someone's post? Ignore it or respond without making it personal.

I don't even understand his point anyway. Is he trying to say that C&D is being sarcastic in pushing those options? I think he confuses car mags and Internet forums. We will never know as he apparently got banned. Oops!

Yep. Moot point now! Back on topic for this thread, starting now.

I really am impressed by BMW's work with the 4-Series.

Widening out the track seems to have really helped the car's composure.

I particularly enjoyed this part:
"... yet they have remained steadfastly independent as others have buddied up into global conglomerates...."
BMW still maintains its headtohead competition worthiness against rivals (Audi,M-B, Cadillac) that have been injected with solid joint ventures/ partnerships boosting their bottom lines...yet the BMW stays as a benchmark and continues to do so by focusing on models that are all popular...which you don't see that in any other luxury manufacturing brand...

3-series doesn't stand a chance against the other cars. Stingray will most likely take home the win.

It would not surprise me if the Mazda 6 won car of the year. Mazda did a hell of job with that car.

What win? C&D 10 best doesn't have a "winner" they are all winners. You might be confusing this with the "Car of the Year" award, which is a different ballgame, with different rules.

Great read about both BMW and Honda, well written, enjoyed reading as I owned many Honda's before switching to BMW and there is still a Honda in my household (better half drives a CRV). We would love to trade it for a BMW X model, but the fact is that its 6 years old, still drives like new, is paid for and has absolutely nothing wrong with it keeps us from doing so. OEM backup camera, Nav and XM radio keeps the better half happy along with good fuel economy and no monthly car note. We really can't justify trading to a BMW X vehicle.

If they split the two cars there is a definite chance that neither would make it on the 10 best list. The votes would be split and result in each "version" getting less votes than the sum

In Your Opinion, yes, but in mine no. IMO the four door sedan looks better, more practice and carries a 36 year tradition name. Add M Performance suspension, ppk tune and m performance exhaust to a 335i MSport with the money saved from buying a 435i and you have the better car , IMO of course.

Cheers!

This is what I expect from now on from any auto publication making top 10 lists. Not just a link to a website. I want videos, editing, sounds and sights. This was an epic intro and definitely got me interested in checking out their list.

In other news, the Golf GTI Mk6 is epic. I love mine. Drove the Focus ST (amazing little rocket), but ultimately my grown up and refined sensibilities won. It is still plenty powerful for its weight at 200 hp and 207 lb-ft tq. LOVE IT! Just this morning on my way to the office (was driving my e92 M3), I trailed this guy in his black Mk6 GTI (identical to mine) and just admired how well put together the car is and how sweet and sharp it looks cruising down the interstate. I bet he is on the GTI threads now posting about annoying M3 owners always wanting to race him. :]

Well the sedan certainly doesn't look better but its the better value in the price/performance segment.
