Question 4 series automatic boot opening

Hi guys, I have a question about the boot opening on a 4 series.
Am I correct in assuming you need the comfort acces to be able to open the bootlid with a swing of the foot? How well does this work? Anyone care to share experience?
Then to close it, does that work with the press of a button? Is that also included in the comfort acces or does it require an additional goodie?
Thanks!

I have it - not sure if CA is required. It only seems to work when all doors are locked (assumes you have been away shopping and are coming back laden with bags?). No auto close - need to do that manually.

Works okay, although much faster to use keyfob, as the sensors take a while to ensure it is you.

Advisor told me on delivery that you have to be very consistent with the motion, or the system will become 'confused'.

In sum, I'd give it an 8/10 as a concept, but a 6/10 on usefulness (to me) with its current execution.

My $0.02.

Oh, I thought it required the comfort acces to verify its you through detection of the key fob..
So maybe its possible to auto-open the bootlid with the keyfob on all 4-series?
Shame to hear there's no auto closing.. I'd really like that to not get so much finger prints on the lid.

It may require CA. I'm not 100% certain.

On my car, one does not need to be consistent at all. It works no matter where you kick under the rear bumper. I can even stand at the side of the car, behind the rear wheel, and a kick works.

The other day when drying the rear bumper after washing it, the towel flopping very slightly under the rear bumper opened the trunk 3 times....need to remember to NOT have fob in pocket when drying the car.

This has generally been my experience. Very easy and works well.

To counter what was said above, the doors do not need to be locked for it to work. My doors are unlocked when I utilize it.

baw, oc40, sleeeper, Thanks for the feedback guys! Nice to hear it works as should.
So no one has the auto closing, right? I presume its not available then for the 3/4 series..

Auto closing comes standard...with your hand.

Kick-to-open is part of Comfort Access. F10 has kick-to-close as part of CA as well. All the cars have remote trunk open; remote close requires a servo motor. F10 has that, so there is a close button on the trunk lid (no remote close for you American klutzes!), but I don't know if there is a servo motor on any F3X car. Without that, you'll be pushing on the lid. Firmly.

I love this feature... Im pretty sure that you do need comfort access though.. at least on the 328i.

I use it all the time.. It works well.. 99% of the time it works with the first kick.

In fact one time I was walking my dog to the car (hes 15lbs) and he happen to walk under the rear bumper on the way to the drivers side and since i was within 3 ft of the trunk with the key, the trunk popped open.. funniest thing.. haha..

Mine worked well initially but after a few days I haven't been able to get it to work at all. Maybe some grime from salting the roads here is covering the sensor?

I dunno about this. I looked underneath and didnt see anything resembling a sensor of any sorts. I dunno where its located.

My 435i has CA and no matter how I try I can't get the trunk to open using my foot.

Works every time for me. Just swing your foot in under the license plate and back out. Lights flash and the trunk opens.

I usually have to run my foot under 2 to 3 times and sometimes just doesn't work. It very rarely works on the first try with me. Kind of disappointed with it. The manual says it needs to be a quick in and out motion, I tried following exact directions but still does not work on the 1st try often.

Thanks, this got it to work. I was following the picture in the manual that shows moving the foot on the right side and not directly in the center.
