How to get Enhance Bluetooth and USB on F30 without Tech Package
Hey everyone thought I would drop this note to help others out. I just picked up my 2014 335i MSport in Estoril Blue with Red Coral interior and it is beautiful. What did frustrate me was the fact that the enhanced BT and USB was not an option on the 2014 model and you had to pay 2150 for the nav package to get it.
So I was looking on bimmer-tech.net and reached out to Patryk, who by the was is awesome and very quick to respond, to see what I needed to get Enhanced BT and USB. I sent him a pic of my combox and low and behold I had all the hardware I needed BMW just decided to not code it for enhanced bt/usb. Patryk from Bimmertech is only charging my 175 dollars US for a cable and they will remote into my PC and code the car for me. I am ordering the cable today and should have it next week. I will let everyone know how it goes. I have attached a pic of my combox it is located under the trunk cover not sure it is made it to the post or not. The guys at bimmertech are awesome and I have read great things about them on this forum. I have also read this post that confirms someone was able to code the car themselves using esys to get enhanced BT/USB without the purchase of any hardware. http://www.f30post.com/forums/showth...=851042&page=5 |

Looks like the X3 has the same issue for 2014, and I, for one, have no interest in the BMW Nav system (I prefer my standalone Garmin). Please let us know how this turns out, because I will definitely go this route for my wife's next car.

So all 2014 3-Series have the Combox factory installed, either in the NBT iDrive (Nav) or the Professional iDrive (non-Nav)... I thought that the sucker was not even present with the Professional iDrive, that it was built-in like the late Euro E90 OEM HU.
That's a great find... |

Also not all non-Nav 2014 3-series have the Combox. Some of them have the basic Bluetooth/USB integrated in the non-Nav HU and cannot be easily upgraded to enhanced Bluetooth. |

Yes, that's what I meant with the NBT iDrive Nav (Combox built-in), but I am surprised to see a separate Combox in a non-Nav. But I guess that it is for the Telematics (standard BMW Assist for MY2014 in the USA 3-Series). So, it is possible that the Combox Telematics is standard in the USA non-Nav for MY2014? |

The Entry HU wouldn't have this hardware built in for the E-call service built in. I guess we just need to find a non-nav 3 series or 4 series and change the 6NH to 6NS and see what happens. |

Well I am the test case . I have a MY14 without nav. I order the ODB connect from bimmertech and it should be here by the end of the week.
Once I get the cable they will be changing the code to 6NS and my hope is I get enhanced bt/USB without having to spend 2200 for nav!!! I will def post the results once the coding is done. In all the will cost me 180 for the cable and a tech from bimmertech to do the coding. Not to bad if you ask me. |

I hear you on doing it yourself. I actually did some research and would need to get esys then do the recoding myself. I found a thread on f30 that walks through it but it isn't straight forward. I just figured having someone that has done this several times made sense as I don't want to mess up my 10 day old car haha.

It IS very straight forward and you can't really mess up your car. All you are doing is changing parameters that are already in the ECU's of your car.
That is until you want to change the VO and then, providing you follow the "rules" you can't go too far wrong either. |

I would be willing to try if you have some detailed instructions on how to do the coding. I would want something to follow as I have never coded a car of any kind. If you have some steps that would be great.

Have a look in the coding section, there is a myriad of extremely good information there. There is quite a lot that can be coded in our cars.

The most relevant thread is on the front page of the Coding forum!
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=851042 Pay particular attention to post #79, which is on page 4. Let me know if I can do anything else for you. |

Ok guys I got the OBD cable on friday night and the folks from bimmer-tech did the coding remotely and this worked!!! I now have enhanced bluetooth and USB. The one thing to note is you need to shut your car off and lock the doors and wait 15 min so the car goes to sleep. It took us about 45 mins to figure this out so the program would pick up the computer of the car.
The guys at Bimmer-tech were very professional and the guy I worked with stayed up until 1:45am his time to get this done. I am now able to stream audio via bluetooth for Pandora and Music Function on my iphone. I am also able to use the white iPhone 5 lightening cable to play music via pandora and itunes on the phone. It even transfers the album artwork. I really don't understand why BMW doesn't give you an option to pay like 200 bucks to just have this turned on when you get your car since you pay for the hardware or even better just include it!! I highly recommend the guys at bimmer-tech. I received the cable in less than 5 days and they worked the same day to get the coding done. This all cost 180 bucks. Here are some pics to prove that this worked. The fist 4 are pre-coding and the second 5 are post coding. Let me know if you have any questions. |

HWF003 thanks for the reply. That is the same thread that I posted up at the top. It does talk about the coding but it isn't straight forward. If you have never used esys before it doesn't seem to straight forward. If someone documented the all the steps showing how this was done I would feel more comfortable trying it.
The person in that thread clearly had a bunch of trouble trying to change that one code from 6NH to 6NS as you have to code both the comm media box and the head unit. |

The MY2013 had an option for BMW Assist with enhanced bluetooth and usb. I believe that gave you the combox if you didn't get that option the headunit had the standard bluetooth phone only technology in the headunit itself.
Look at my first post. If you open up your trunk and there is a commbox then you can do it. Mostly likely if you don't have the BMW Assist with enhanced bluetooth and usb you don't have the commbox in the MY2013. The guys at bimmer-tech.net sell the commbox that will give you this for 650 bucks which is what the option was on the 2013 Model. BMW gives you Assist standard in the MY2014 cars and took away the Option for BMW Assist with Enhanced Bluetooth/USB. They give you the combox but don't turn on the enhanced bluetooth/usb then try to get you to spend 2200 bucks for the Nav option and turn the code on for the enhanced bluetooth/usb. |

So, if I have a base model 2014 320i, will I be able to do this also?

You should. Just look at the first post in this thread that I typed up. Open your trunk and then pull up the cover. You will see a fuse box on the right and the combox should be on the left. I posted a pic of what the combox looks like. If you have that combox then you can code the car and replace the 6NH code with 6NS and you will get enhanced bluetooth and usb.
