335 BSM MSPORT On Koi Orange M400 Rims

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So I got bored and decided I need a new look for the spring. Did 6 coats of Koi Orange Plastidip with another 2 coats of the Glossifier.

Some overspray which was not easily removed still remains, but overall I am very happy with the results. The Brake dust kills the look with the amount I drive, but some Lysol wipes usually do the trick.

I think it would look much better inverted - koi orange with glossifier on the body, black on the wheels... But, to each his own - if you like it, who cares!

If you're gonna change the color, you should get it done professionally. The over spray on the tires, calipers, etc. is just horrible. I don't get this plasti dip stuff...it's like taking a shower with your underwear on.

Except then its not reversible. Why jump into something balls out if you aren't sure you will even like it?

If he didn't mention it would you even know there was any? I can't see any evidence of it in these photos.

I can't say I'm wild about the look of the car here but I'm not gonna shit on the guy for trying to do something different. Traditionally the point of car customization is to make it your own, not the same formula as 50 other cars on the same forum.

OP I think the issue is the contrast of the orange and the deep rich gloss of the black paint. It works better if the paint is flat, or just obviously a track/race car. Your car looks more like a luxury vehicle and thus the orange looks out of place. However if you dig it? rock on.

Because racecar?!

It looks ok but it wouldn't be my first choice. Personally I find silver wheels on black cars nice.

On a different note, I think plastidip and other DIY coatings are great. Nothing wrong with trying stuff but spend some time, you bought /in part/ for BMW for craftsmanship I hope. I would try to keep it that way, Masking tape and basic painting supplies are cheap and they certainly make your work look more professional.

Look into the wheel well, overspray is hard to clean up.

I admire the guts to do something like this but as others have said it would look a thousand times better if you had taken more time to prep and taken the wheels off. Definitely not something you do with absolutely no prep work. Heck the prep work should take you longer than actually applying the plastidip.

I will say though that as I have aged I've tried to stop thinking critical about other folks mods. I used to mock cars I saw on the road that were modded in a way that I considered ugly but then I recalibrated myself to understand that it's just another car lover who has different tastes than me and the fact they they are trying to personalize their car is what should be applauded.

+1

...also in defense of the OP, Plastidip does claim you can use it while the wheels are still on the car and the overspray will peel right off the tires...not something I would try though.

Was this from counseling? ...just teasing. Am sorry I could not resist, but there are some mods out there that would have the most eclectic person going ..Like others have mentioned if more prep was done, it would have come out better.

OP. Common man you have plastidip everywhere even on the asphalt. You know, if you feel like experimenting with colors, there is this program called photoshop. You can play with all the colors you like and it will save you a whole lot of time. I heard plastidip is kind of a biyatch to take off.

It needs some work. Drop it, and either get some new rims or sandblast the orange off and go back to stock.

I don't like stock rims painted for that car, most the time it just looks funny.

I could see this fitting in at a SF Giants game (Dodger's fan)

Ha, that made me laugh! Just decided I needed to be more understanding and more kind. And yeah, that also sounded like it came from counseling. lol

Holy crap on a cracker. Forget the fact of coloring factory wheels or whether I think that Plasti-dip is for 16 year olds. It's one thing to be different and standout, but at least do the job correctly so it doesn't look like your little brother or sister got a hold of dad's spray paint.
