The PPK is the last significant mod on my list. I have a 11/12 build, which is the cutoff for a new DME (now based on the car's Plant Integration Code). Per my Plant Integration Code, I require a new DME.

I ordered the PPK with a DME through my dealership. I expected the parts to arrive in about 3 weeks since the DME is VIN specific. My dealership called me 3 days later to inform me that my kit was in. I asked how they received a DME in such a short period of time..."Good news! You don't require a new DME."

I reiterated that I did, in fact, require a new DME given my experience on this forum. They checked with the lead tech..."doesn't need a new DME." I pressed. The dealer called a BMW tech in Germany..."we don't believe he needs a new DME, but let's get the car in to verify."

Guess what? I'm going to pick up my car without the PPK. They just opened up a PUMA case to order a new...wait for it...wait for it...D...M...F'n...E.

Anyway, I knew this was coming. I am only venting a little.

Oh man ... What a mess. Sorry to hear about that. I swear BMW CA and SA should hang out on f30 post more. Sheesh ... Now we have to tell you how to do your job too?

You definitely need to "trust but verify" when asking a dealer to do mods for you (even factory mods).

I am thinking about the PPK for my car too.

Can you do some before and after dyno pulls and 1/4 mile runs to help me decide ?

Lol. I blame the lead tech and BMW Germany for not knowing this. Can't wait for the parts now!

Ha! Get it! I believe 300hp did a dyno on the "old" PPK.

I planned on getting it when it was first available, but I opted for the MPS first.

Unbelievable! Especially since you advised them up front exactly what you needed for your build date since you already did the research. And wonder why the tech in Germany wasn't able to determine what you needed based on your VIN and why you had to bring your car in - I am guessing they had to hook it up and have the system software communicate with Germany via remote but still don't understand why that would be necessary. I am still contemplating getting it too but these posts really make me leery, not sure why its so complicated for a few parts and and a software update. Hopefully, they give you some kind of discount for the mix-up. Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome.

Unfortunately, my build date was on the cutoff which has been the root of the mixup. If your build date is not 11/12, you should be fine. Order it!

Sorry to hear. I'm getting mine installed tomorrow (Friday). I'm a July '13 build, so I'm hoping the coding process goes smoothly.

I have a 11/12 build as well, but not aware of why the DME is needed. If the DME was updated by BMW, dont we get the DME for free? Does the PPK make a difference based on the new/old DME?

I have a 5/12 build, and if I decide to go this route, I'll require a DME too.

The DME's required since it's not possible on the old DME to code the PPK.
Depending where you're getting the kit, the DME addition's only a mere 135$, not too bad.

I will. I'm getting a ppk and mpe installed this week. I went to local dyno last week to establish a stock baseline. I'll be back to the same dyno shop in about 3 weeks to see what kind of gains the ppk/mpe provided. 2013 Rwd f30 w/ 6mt.
