Car cleaning kit / DIY Detail stuff

I'm planning on having a good go at my car tomorrow. So, I pulled out my kit bags to make sure I had everything I needed... I'd splurged and topped up my kit bags in the 3 month wait and this is the result...

After reading and replying to a few post on here about how to clean and protect your car I thought I'd share my kit bags with you good folk. The small bag is my regular use cleaning and top up bag, the big bag is my OCD shinny shinny bag...

PS, the cat isn't required... Much more of a hindrance in reality...

What do you guys have in your kit?

Oh yea, there's two buckets also. One for soapy water and the other for clean water to rinse the sponge in.

The 'Two Bucket Method' is the cheapest way to protect the finish of your car. It saves tracking grit of the sponge across the car. So, less swirls etc.

How does the pussy mitt compare with sheepskin mitt for washing?

I find the pussy one, self agitates when you put it in the shampoo bucket and then does it again in the water only bucket.

The only issue I have found is getting my hand in .......

Once in hand and all suds up it seems to become unusually difficult to hold and quite spiky. The major draw back is the potential blood marring of you finish...

Yes, I bought it to use on my 403M's and the Blue M Brake Callipers. Haven't used it yet but have heard great reports.

Yeah me to, will use it on my current 320d Le Mans and see how it looks.

Will it handle the temperature of calipers?

I tend to use Swissvax autobahn for wheels, nice level of PTFE.

Also it handles being snow foamed and pressure washed.

Nice selection of supernatural, how do you find their finger mits?

I've no idea how it will work on the Brake Calipers, but as it's semi-synthetic I think it will at least be worth a poke.

The wax finger mitts are great and really make the wax go on evenly and a really long way... I've done about 6 car coats with the small Supernatural Wax Panel Pot using the finger mitt to spread it! Heat from fingers plus foam spreading seems ideal.

That is epic

The only thing that stands between me and this level of commitment is spare time. I just don't have enough

I reckon you can get the basics for under 100 (2 buckets, grit guards, wash mitt, shampoo, drying towels, wax).

I've probably got around 500 worth that I've accumulated over time (DA plus the above plus various polishes/waxes/sealants etc).

Did you have your car detailed?
Or was it protect and shine?

If detailed ask your detailer as does depend on what they used.

I would guess there is somewhere between £400-500 of stuff in my kit. Excluding the cat...

This bag is mostly DoDo Supernatural stuff and is the DoDo top range. The wax is £55 for a 200ml tub etc. So, in their normal range you could get the lot for £250-300. Wax is £30 a tub etc.

You can get many a good wax cheeper than the stuff I've got. I've always polished my cars over the years and have just moved into this stuff by evolution, as I like their matched chemistry approach across their products.

A good kit will include:
Two buckets
Dedicated sponges / mitts
A good shampoo
Drying Towel('s)
Clay and Lube
Polish / Pre-Wax Cleanser
Wax / Sealant
Quick Detailing Spray for top up.
Glass Cleaner / Polish / Sealant
Microfibres and Applicator Pads for each product.
Oh yes, time and OCD helps...

I have found a good drying towel is worth it's wait in gold, it's half the battle.

Also a long hot bath after it all and a beer / wine

Now I am getting on in age, I can only do the BMW one day and the Mondeo next day.

My neighbours can wash their car, go shopping, mow lane and I am just finishing lol.

A friend runs ishinecarcare.co.uk... I wonder if he could do a forum deal?
Before I ask, are there any commercial limits on the forum of this sort of thing...
