Electric cars & BMW...

Yup, knew it.

BMW has had a long history of building electric concept cars to test the e-waters.

I had the pleasure to see some of these hidden treasures at BMW Classic a few years back...

Actually there are many electric cars out there and have good system and design. But oil energy still dominate in our earth and they still use their power to force car manufactures using oil.

"56k death"

Does anyone even know what that means anymore, let alone actually still uses a 56k connection?

Edit: Cool stuff, though!

Thanks for sharing. I think BMW should use their Electric Car history in their new advertising campains to show that atleast they were thinking about it and trying at one time in their past.

*An absolute much watch is the Documentary: Who Killed the Electric Car?

Who Killed the Electric Car? is a 2006 documentary film that explores the creation, limited commercialization, and subsequent destruction of the battery electric vehicle in the United States, specifically the General Motors EV1 of the mid-1990s. The film explores the roles of automobile manufacturers, the oil industry, the US government, the California government, batteries, hydrogen vehicles, and consumers in limiting the development and adoption of this technology.

After a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, it was released theatrically by Sony Pictures Classics in June, 2006 and then on DVD by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on November 14, 2006.

During an interview with CBS News, director Chris Paine announced that he had started a new documentary about electric cars with a working title of Who Saved the Electric Car?, later renamed Revenge of the Electric Car, which had its world premiere at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival on Earth Day, April 22, 2011.

Lightbulb If you make a car look cool and sexy it will sell!

The hideous BMW E1 has the same shape and similar look to the new i3. It still baffles me to why BMW designers did not make the i3 look more like the super successful 3 Series. If you make a car look cool and sexy it will sell, i8 hello!

The i3 is the Mega City Car, that can park almost anywhere because of its compact size.

Try parking a 3er in the city streets. Not so easy by comparison.

I owned a 1600 (petrol) back in the day. It had a 4 speed manual transmission, crank windows, manual door locks, manually adjusted seats, no factory radio and a 245 air conditioner. It also had radial tires and independent rear suspension which were unusual in the 60's. It was missing all sorts of stuff we take for granted now.

Actually Porsche first had an electric car in 1898! Here is their second car... and electric/petrol hybrid built in 1900!! It's called the Lohner-Porsche. It's sitting next to their 2015, 918 - also a hybrid!

PS: The above cars were seen in Brussels, Belguim last year at the Autoworld museum. Porsche of Belgium had a very special exhibit for us Porsche-fanatics.

Call me crazy but I like the shape and size of the i3. I took one home on a two day extended test drive and thought it would be a great car for me. I just can't afford it right now, having no car payments is very addictive. I bought a house close to work and only drive about 5k in a year, so my total fuel bill even on premium for a year is under $1000, even if premium rose to $4/gal. Its hard to justify spending $50k on a vehicle to save $1000/year in fuel. I also realize my situation isn't so common.

Its no longer on Hulu, darn. I'll just wait until I get home to rent it from iTunes on Apple TV, the trailers and clips I found look pretty good. Thanks for sharing as well.

The i3 is an amazing car, but looks like a econo-box.

I re-uploaded the link to Revenge of the Electric Car (2011)

The i3 is an amazing car, I test drove it and I loved it! It made all the other brand new BMW's in the lot look like antiquated antiques. It just does not look like the i8 unfortunately, it has the same design language but it still looks like a econo-box, the designers could and should have done better I feel.

Prof. Ferdinand Porsche Created the First Functional Hybrid Car, advanced Electric Car, and All-Wheel Drive Car a century ago. Genius takes a long to be recognized unfortunately.

^this. Drive around Rome and see how out of place and huge a 3 series looks..

That said, they didn't have to make the nose of the i3 look like a Pug puppy.....

I think we're certainly much closer to where the "future is now" for electric cars. But they need to keep making rapid chargers better and keep building the infrastructure to where its realistic to drive one and never feel like you have to do extra planning of your trips, beyond what is required of ICE powered cars. That and prove the massive batteries won't give us all cancer....... Not there yet.
