BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I have 35k should I buy Corvette c6 Z06 or BMW M6.
I know I dont have 113K for new M6 but 2007 or 2008 will do just fine or
100k for new z06.
I like to hear input form someone who owns or use to own this cars.
Thanks

Haven't owned either, so feel free to disregard.

Corvette? Seriously?
It's been done. The roads are full of them. You'd just look like another mid-life crisis.

The M6 is a rare and exotic beast, in a class and with the class of Aston and Maserati.

The BMW will be nicer and much more rare. The Corvette will be much faster, more reliable, cheaper to maintain and cheaper to repair. Whatever you like best I suppose.

My best guess would be, try before you buy! See if you can get a drive in each of them and see which you like better. After all, it's going to be your car, not ours

go read on m6board dot com in the E63 forums to find out pros and cons. The E63 M6 was the best M6 ever imagined thanks to the mighty S85. It will never be matched again, so if you have the opportunity to acquire a clean one, go for it. I got mine new and had it for nearly 4 years and it was some of the best times possible in terms of driving enjoyment. There is NOTHING that can compare to the brute rawness and power and sound of the ///M powered V10 S85, and no matter what the new car puts out in terms of power, it can never compete, imho. But lets not digress as this is not an NA vs FI thread. Just know that every day will be special in the E63 M6 as soon as you hit that start button.

Id say be sure to get an '08 or later though as most of the kinks were worked out by then and there were some new features added. You'll need to have a warranty though in all cases, so factor that in. good luck.

Personally, I could never get over the droopy headlights of the E63 6ers. Makes the car look like it has Down's syndrome.

Depends on what you want to do with the car. If a DD and you can get a warranty then the M6 would be excellent although a Z06 also is easily drivable daily. If you're planing on going to the track, then the Z06 is the car to choose. If you're worried about running costs and can't get a decent warranty, get the Z06.

My choice should be the M6. I always admire the previous gen M6 when I see them on the road.

And every BMW owner is a douche-bag. Grow up. I bought my C6 at age 25.

If you want luxury sportscar, go M6. It's no secret that a Corvette is still a Chevrolet, but there's something about a naturally aspirated car begging you to throw it around. The M6 is a land barge in comparison. Also, the Z06 will absolutely annihilate the M6 in a lot of categories. Will you experience that on the street? Probably not - it's fun trying though.

If this is a strictly street duty car, I'd probably opt for the M6. Any track time? Z06 all the way.

i love that V10 engine, i like the M5 more. but it would be hard for me to own a car like it. with miles and age on its side. parts are very expensive and getting rare. where the Z06 its a lot cheaper and more reliable to begin with. i would go Z06.

Maintenance on a $100,000 car is maintenance on a $100,000 car, even if you only paid $35k for it. I had an E60 M5, I loved everything about the car except the transmission, it isn't good and it will cost you money.
The V10 loves fuel, it loves oil, and it loves rear tires.

As long as you have your eyes (and wallet) wide open get the M and enjoy, one of the last great BMW engines. If not, get the Vette, it will be cheaper to drive and maintain.

lol no it isn't.

But way to sound like the stereotypical douchebag BMW owner who oversells the brands perceived prestige and focusing on an image of a car instead of what actually matters to actual enthusiasts, how they drive.

And of all the words to use to describe an M6...exotic would be amongst the bottom.

As for the OP's question, depends on what you're looking for in a car. Even the way they deliver power is different. The M6 has an NA very high revving V10 (one of the best sounding engines BMW has ever made in a production car IMO) whereas the Z06 has the textbook and classic American V8. The M6 will have nicer bells and whistles whereas the Z06 will be more of a track focused car so keep that in mind. Z06's can have a very punishing ride and may be more difficult to live with day to day vs. the M6.

On a track, with a decent to good driver, the Z06 will dance in circles around the M6...as well as an Aston and Maserati.

While i try not to digress, I sort of dont understand your comments above or why you need to resort to such name calling. Have you owned an S85 M6 to be able to compare "dynamics" to an AM or Maserati? Its sort of silly if not rediculous to comment on driving dynamics and then tout AM or Mas in this comparison, things they are never touted for in comparisons. While the M6 is not an exotic car, its engine surely is and its been proven to beat the very best when it was introduced. I would certainly challenge the notion that most people that buy an AM as well as a Mas are driving enthusiasts, its more like very lucky or very successful while still liking to drive a status symbol which is the target for many of those offerings. But, for day to day reliability and enjoyment, it was near impossible to beat the M6 period. ive had friends with ferraris and lambos that love the M6 for its day to day usablility and insane power and most of them went on to get an M6 (and M5s too) along with or as replacement for their true exotics. If you are going to talk dynamics, well BMW is actually really really hard to beat and M cars in particular will stand up next to near any car when the sole judgement is driving dynamics, regardless of whether you call it an 'exotic'.

No fan boy here either, and Ill not say that the E63 M6 was the best car ever made and nothing ever beats it, but its a damn great car with an exotic engine.

if its speed your looking for its not even in the same zipcode a zo6 will spank an M6 in all areas. My buddy has an 06 zo6 FBO things runs 11s all day. my brother got rid of his m6 last spring that v10 is got to be one of the nicest sounding motors ever built. fit and finish wise an M6 is head and shoulders above the vet. If this car is a daily go with the M6

The C6 Z06 will be faster and much cheaper to maintain (but get the valves checked on the heads to make sure they are within spec!). I've driven a couple that a friend owned and when pushed, the car handles like it is on rails and is really fast, even in stock form. Modded, there won't be much on the street that it couldn't beat, or at least hang with. Plus, it has a torquey 7.0L V8, weighs in at about 3200 lbs, and has the ability to fit pretty large tires on all four corners. It's definitely on my short list of cars to buy.

As for the M6, I've never driven one or ridden in one so I can't really speak to it. However, I can imagine it will cost a lot to maintain properly and, when something breaks, it will be expensive to repair. Performance wise, the car weighs in at about 4000 lbs and has less torque from the 5.0 L V10 (383 ft-lb @ 6100 RPM vs. over 400 ft-lb from 2400 to 6400 RPM). The interior will be nicer and you'll be able to fit more people (4 seater vs. 2 with the Z06).

Yeah I can try to elaborate more although I still maintain that his comments came off as incredibly pompous and condescending (probably would've been better to say that to begin with). I never compared driving dynamics of the M6 vs. the AM or Maserati nor do I intend to. The two cars cater to two very different demographics so it's a moot point anyway.

Quote:

I was never the one to bring up AM or Maserati, the guy I quoted and responded to did. He said that an M6 is comparable to the AM and Maserati, not in driving dynamics but rather in "prestige". Which isn't true. BMW, while a great brand (as well as M GmbH), isn't quite up to the same level of sophistication that Maserati and Aston Martin hold in the market place. Not that that is a big deal, BMW primarily doesn't focus on that demographic anyway.

The OP, in looking at an M6 and a Z06, most likely wants a driver oriented car so to him, it's likely irrelevant that a Z06 won't have the same "prestige" as an M6, besides he probably already knows that and doesn't care. IMO to discount a Corvette as a "mid life crisis car" and ignore the merits it does have is just ridiculous.

I wouldn't dispute the fact that the engine itself is exotic, it is. But that's not what he said. He said the car itself was. A 6 Series is a damn nice car, but it's not an exotic by any means, even in M trim. I also never said that driving enthusiasts buy AM and Maseratis. Like I said, with regard to the OP, going between an M car and a Z06 likely means that HE is a driving enthusiast. Both of the cars he is looking at fit the bill well, just depends on what kind of driving he's looking for.

Quote:

Reread what I wrote, I said that the M6 is a great day to day car and easier to live with as a daily than a Z06, but suggested that if the OP is looking for a car he can drive on a track then a Z06 is be better suited to that. It is literally what the car was built for.

I think you took what I wrote and assumed I was trashing the M6, which I wasn't. Just realizing it for what it is, a damn good car that one could easily drive everyday around town but it's not in the same league as an Aston or Maserati.

Bone stock C6 Z06s with below-average drivers run "11s all day," too.

Exceptional drivers in above-average track conditions will run high-10s in a C6 Z06 with the one and only single modification being tires.
