330d/335d

Is there any difference in standard spec between the two?

Look at the BMW configurator for enlightenment.
I'll help you on the way with this:

Oh, and if you get sDrive, you'll have a car that BMW is renowned for.

And if you're getting M Sport, get sdrive and you'll actually get M Sport suspension!

Exactly.

BTW, I drove my fab sDrive in pouring rain and high winds today. It never spun the rear wheels, even in Sport mode when I gave it some real welly and left an Audi S5 Quattro overdosing on my rear spray. The car was as stable as a rock. Then he tried again and I left him floundering in my wake. My stead handled like a dream (or a wet one as in this case!) and stuck to the tarmac like a leach.

xDrive? Pah!

I agree I went with std suspension my once rice purely coz of a young one, preg wife and the reason for change was due to new addition to the family.
Had z4m before which was an amazing car with lots of power, stiff suspension and an awesome drive and a Toyota supra tt before and a Nissan 300zx before, so rwd is nothing new and agree with anyone that rwd is better driver's car.
Question still remains can u use everything under your right foot

The question is where does xdrive fare better? I feel unless it's abow or big puddles can't see a big difference, re 335d vs 330d it depends on how u drive, on a track 335d has an edge but on road can't see much difference. I know financially not a big difference between the 2, but do u need 335d? Not sure

I think the standard brakes are different on the 335 aren't they? And the 335 has two turbo's of course

I suppose you can call an xDrive BMW a BMWxDriveAudiQuattro hybrid.

Best and worst of both worlds.

The 325d, 330d and 335d all have the same if you have the msport plus pack.

The 330d s drive has breakable traction, not bad traction. The reward and feeling you get when exiting a corner at the grip limit and feeding in the throttle with rear just about breaking away is one that all racing cars/ drivers live for.

Xdrive gives fast a to b progress with less mental strain. While ultimately the s drive will be quicker around a corner, the xdrive will give the average driver more confidence to enter corners at a higher speed, knowing that there will be minimal wheel slip and a larger perceived safety net for if things get slippery.

I'd be equally happy with either, its just two different ways of applying performance.

Agree with that! You actually get the same in the xDrive, it's just the limit comes later.

Don't agree with that. I don't consider myself the average driver (but who does) and whilst I wouldn't call it mental strain as such, there is an awful lot of concentration going on when pressing on in either car - its more about the pace than being more confident.

I'm also not sure about the cornering speed and think you may have underestimated the xDrive here. In any RWD you drive hard into a corner and floor the go pedal once you begin to straighten up; in any FWD you ease into the corner and hit the go pedal hard to straighten up. In the xDrive you you both, drive in hard and keep your foot planted to pull out of the corner hard, only on very tight corners do you actually have to lift at all. I kid you not, it is significantly quicker round the majority of corners that RWD. This has really surprised my as I thought I was a die hard RWD man and taking the xDrive plunge was a worry for me. I spent the first month or so driving it like an sDrive and did't realise the potential. Once I adapted my driving style I have be totally gobsmacked by it's potential; it just keeps going and holding. Phenomenal.

xDrive is not the limiting factor with this car, as GTSussex has made clear on may occasions it's the suspension that limits cornering pace.

I'm in the dealership Tuesday, I may ask to try the sDrive 335 to compare directly.... oh no, wait a minute....
