Disaster :(

Just found out a rodent has chewed the wiring . Display says headlamp vertical control failure. Fog lamps not working and windscreen and headlamp washers not working. Should i change the whole wiring assembly? anyone know the part number? I will be going to the dealership but any suggestions are welcome

BMW makes a crimp connector, they are dsub style folding connectors and you put heat shrink tube over it; they work really well. It's way cheaper and easier to replace.

crimp connector usually means it's solderless.

So you strip the wire, and crimp it with a connector.

What I'm imagining is that there's some sort of molex plug somewhere connected to a wire harness. You cut the wires, and just replace the plug, and crimp the connections together, put shrink wrap on it, and there you go. Good as new.

Yep bmw crimp connectors are solderless, BMW actually recommends the use of them to repair damaged wiring over soldering as the wires can be overheated and cause insulation damage and subsequent possibility of fire.

There is parts of the BMW harness or even sub harnesses that are difficult to replace, main wire loom being one, engine harness its way easier to repair the harness as opposed to removing all the interior/engine accessories. BMW overall doesn't have too many connectors linking the subharnesses and the ones that are there appear to be there to ease assembly. For example the engine harness is treated as part of the engine assembly which is rolled as a complete unit during the assembly and connected to the main loom.

OP This should be a non-issue, your car will be fine I had this happen on my M3 when a branch sitting in the middle of the highway took off Post cat O2 connector and ripped up the harness. It was a 10minute job to repair it.

The BMW dealership says they don't do repair jobs, they only replace(i have to replace the whole bunch of wires, not just the one's damaged) and he said if i get it done outside i might void the electrical warranty . Let me go speak to them again

Thanks guys. I'm attaching my car picture
