Sounds likes your engine is getting a tough life if it's needing an oil service at 12k mikes. Most will go to high teens before needing one. Under those circumstances, presumably lots of short drives on a cold engine, then using a bit of oil is no big deal.
If you have a service pack then the dealer will top you up for free.
