I thought I'd post a really quick review as I received my idrive 6 unit from Steve about a week ago.
I have an early-2016 F20 with NBT Evo (idrive 4) and really wanted CarPlay. I picked up one of the first-generation CarPlay MMI units from Bimmer Tech about a year ago and had been using that. With the new generation of them coming out with widescreen support and wireless I started looking at swapping out this for a newer MMI model. On a whim I dropped Steve and email to see what would be involved in a head unit upgrade instead.
I was always impressed with the MMI box, but the head unit upgrade is sooooo much better. It's great just having everything integrated together properly and it just works. The install took about 10 minutes and everything worked first time. ConnectedDrive services continue to work so I can remotely lock the car, locate it etc.
My car went in for a service yesterday at BMW and there were no issues from them with the head unit having been replaced.
