I checked the pressure with a Freon kit gauge and it was super high, like 80 psi. I kept releasing until 45 psi and the compressor started to cycle normally, but still hot air. Then I released all the Freon and started adding till the pressure was around 40-45 psi. Now the compressor kicks on when the AC is active but doesn't cycle, and the air is still blowing hot air. I'd assume the compressor isn't the issue here, and I guess neither is the Freon level because I emptied it all and refilled it. What seems to be the issue?
Did you resolve your issue?

By the way, it is a rather serious crime to release freon into the atmosphere. By the sound of your post you were not evacuating the system with a proper AC machine.
