With that said, I sounds like many people have found driving groups, sports groups, exec, and have met some cool people along the way, so that answers my original question.

Your original post (“I've been trying to branch out and meet more people...) sounded like you were trying to make new friends and using a website to do so, and then went on to mention how meeting some odd people resulted. If that’s not the case, ok, but not hard to see how that perception may have been created.
