Porsche is a different brand and experience. Their volume is lower and they have much fewer models. BMW generally carry much higher inventory and their dealership model seems to reflect that. There are far fewer Porsche dealers than there are BMW dealers as well. I suspect salesperson turnover at BMW is higher.

Net result - in my experience Porsche tends to have a more laid back, VIP type experience. When buying my GT4 and 911 Turbo, I probably spent hours talking to my salesperson about everything. BMW is just different. Definitely a cut above the cheap and nasty Toyota/Jeep/etc experience, but not quite at the Porsche level.
