This is because the all LCI updates apart from the B58 engine were included from MY2018 for the 4 series I believe. So in your case they did just stick a b58 into a pre-lci chassis for the 2017 cars. I was told this info from multiple dealers when I was shopping around for a cpo 440i last summer. For 3 series all the lci stuff was included from MY 2016 and then for MY 2017 they updated to Idrive 5. This is the case for the US cars, I am not aware how it was all done in other countries or regions.
