Well its messy, you need to get under the car, not every one has a jack. On F31 335d its super easy with an extraction pump as engine has a dipstick and filter housing is accessible from the top. Its 15 min job tops.
I agree, on cars that have filters accessible from underneath the car it makes sense to drain as you are going under anyway.
Also, if any gunge accumulates in the sump then I suspect oil changes are not frequent enough.
