I guess N20 is made with cheaper internals compared to N55 but I don't know if I would go that far to say it's the most fragile engine ever. Problem is that six cylinders are crazy expensive in Finland (and I'm sure that's the case also elsewhere, just maybe not in US) so you can't afford one even if it's pre-owned. 320i costs ~40k€ and 340i ~80k€ without any options. Add some 20k€ for all bells and whistles and you understand why it's tempting to tune N20 instead of "just upgrade" to six cylinder. If it would be only ~10k difference in price I guess almost no-one would choose four pot instead of smoother and more powerful straight six
