European law makes them add the washer system because ice/snow buildup can reflect the Xenon beam into the wrong direction and blind oncoming drivers
We are stuck with it even though your 3 Series are built here in South Africa where we dont see snow except on the highest mountains and I'm sure you dont see much snow in Australia either.
