It is essentially a stand alone unit, like any other aftermarket dashcam with no link to the car’s inbuilt cameras. The only advantage from my perspective is having BMW supply and fit this one meant that any fault was their responsibility, rather than leaving it open to a supplier, installer and BMW to blame each other.
Some aftermarket dashcams seem to interfere with DAB radio reception and I was keen to avoid this.
