If you put the car into first, you have to move forward enough so the object is no longer detected, but by this stage I now have the front of my car in a lane of traffic.
Can I not just switch the car off?? well as it was freezing temperatures outside, and god knows how long i was gonna have to wait on my wife,

So, the only fix is to switch the car off, and then immediately restart it again?
Balls to that BMW, just install a relay from the reverse switch, or easier still, get some of the software boffins to make it turn off when neutral is selected - there is no need for it to remain live!
