JB+ is the most simple "piggyback" tune. It's user adjustable additive boost (+0-4psi) that connects to 1 sensor (TMAP). It contains very basic logic, in that it will up the boost indiscriminately by fooling the TMAP sensor. It relies on the DME reacting to the increased boost and upping the air and fuel. This tune is considered fairly safe, especially if you are running it at the stock settings or lower (stock is about +3.5-+3.75 psi). This tune is not really detectable if its removed (for service or what have you)... however if BMW were to pull the full DME data, they can most likley tell that it was tuned. As FYI .... the JB+ should be compatible with the N20, N26 and N55 (EWG and PWG).
BM3 is a full DME unlock and flash tuning solution. Instead of tricking the engine into overboosting via sensors, the DME itself has been tuned to output more power by increasing boost, fuel, and air (amongst other things) and perhaps more importantly, can target a safe AFR (instead of blanket boosting across the board). BM3 will give you the most tuning ability, driveability, and engine safety. However, BM3 will essentially "void" your BMW factory warranty (not completely void, but for any major engine issues, you will be on your own).
