When my dealer needed to replace the LED strip (fit and finish wasn't the best...) they had to replace the entire door card instead because the LED strip was mounted and then the ends were melted off in the factory, which didn't leave too much room for it to be filed off and then screwed back in with a new one.

This sounds like I might be the one to try and figure it out. There isn't anything more than edge emitting fiber optic fed by a miniature LED fiber source. I have even pondered the idea of replacing the fiber itself with a longer piece allowing for easier mounting of the LED source behind the door card. Ill check it out and let you guys know what I find. Also if anyone has any other thoughts please keep them coming.
