I have GEICO's mechanical breakdown insurance to carry me through seven years, 100K miles. But even that wouldn't have helped you as you have exceeded 100K miles.
It is very unfortunate and I feel for you but with more than 100K miles, you can't expect BMW to cover the replacement. Especially since you didn't buy it from BMW but bought it used.
