1) Install IHKA3 Controller Unit

See picture below. If 64119311850, a 2013 unit, is actually exchangeable retrospectively, is this swap actually needed? Is it just the wiring to the other bus that is key :

2) Install LCI Screen Display unit

3) move wire from pins on FEM A173*7B to attach to pins on FEM A173*10B which are not in use. Wires are replaced, not bridged, correct?

4) change car build date upward to at least a 2015 Model Year

5) update car to latest istep level

What coding needs to be done at this point (in detail please)?

Is the flash here just the istep flash in #5?

Did I miss any steps?
Hi IK6SPEED,

For my installation, please see my comments on some of the steps you presented:

1) I can confirm 64116842986 also works. When I initially installed this unit, I did not get heat. After installing 64119390099 and getting everything working, I reinstalled 64116842986 and to my surprise, it also worked.

Regarding your question, 64119311850 is IHKA. Yes '850 is exchangeable retrospectively but take a look up the list you attached. Notice 64119356004 (04/14) is "nonexchangeable retrospectively" and the start manufacturing date is consistent when the IHKA3 replaced the IHKA

So you would have to source '004 or newer controller.

3. My vehicle came with HU_NBT Nav Professional so A173*10B Pins 10& 11 were in use. I tapped into the K-CAN2 bus from the QuadLock Connector since it was easier for me to access.

4. I VO Coded IHKA3 using manufacturing dates 07/13 (closest to my 10/13 manufacturing date) and 07/14. I compared the two CAFD files and discovered no material differences between the two files.

I then generated a CAFD file using 07/15 and compared the CAFD file with 07/13, there were material differences so I chose to use the 07/14 CAFD.

5) Flash the IHKA3 to the latest FW. Note, the BTLD, SWFL and CAFD files for both of the IHKA3 I tested needed to be updated. No need to FDL Code the IHKA3 CAFD file to determine if your retrofit is working. Just VO Code the IHKA3 ECU after flashing.
