1/8 clockwise was what I needed for my car. Initially I tried 1/4 which made the steering stiff and prevented it from going neutral after a turn while driving. So I backed it out to 1/8 and it was perfect. No more knocking noise on bumps and no more knocking noise when steering wheel is shuffled left and right when car is off.

Just to clarify, did you install the service kit, or just tighten the original?

I first tighten it which resolved the clunk for about 20k when it eventually reared its head. So i bought the kit and install it. That was last month.
