This is true. Audi quattro does not add ground clearance to the base FWD.
In fact when you option the sport suspension with quattro the ride height is lowered quite nicely. Plus, I prefer quattro to Xdrive. In my experience of ownership, quattro makes an Audi better in every handling way.
Whereas, the best handling BMW is a RWD, and Xdrive takes some of it away. Xdrive in a BMW is about winter driving. Quattro is about year round driving.
