The stock heat exchanger is removed, in both the Kate Cool setup and Stu's setup. In my case, the water hose is detached from the removed heat exchanger and simply plugged. I think in Stu's setup it goes via the new adaptor plate.
Either way the cooling process is seperated between water and oil.
