When I first drove the 330i with the B48, the first thing I noticed was they tuned the drivetrain so that the 1-2 shift is performed at higher RPM than the N20-fitted cars, presumably to aid performance when equipped with the B48. This may be one of the reasons why the B48 is less fuel efficient.
