I dont think any of the units discussed in this post have carplay built in, Its a USB Dongle you buy extra for a couple bucks.. There are units with it built in but I dont think any of the ones the majority of us are working with have it built in.

I dont want to speak on behalf of @Firefly1337 but im pretty sure he left due to audio quality concerns which is the major issue im battling since I also have done many sound mods ie technic harness / underseat sub upgrade / amp etc. So this having less audio quality is counter productive to everything ive done.
With that said the only alternative is the OEM / Carplay MMI Bimmertech stuff which is very overpriced if you ask me esp since Im coming from the crappy 6.5 screen. To get an 8.8 + diff headunit plus mmi I would be over $1000 and more towards $2000. We need to figure out how to unlock the Hexagon DSP in the unit and if that works we may reach the promiseland or atleast get pretty damn close .
