Forgive me for not reading all 200 pages from this thread,but how much better are the old maps than the new...in other vehicles I have owned,the difference was negligible at best...this is my first BMW so maybe I’ve been missing out...just curious

That depends largely on how out dated current version is and infrastructure changes in your local area since it was released. With each new map release, new streets, additional POI's, and additional 3D Maps are added, and improvements to the routing algorithm are made.
