Replacing/troubleshooting F30 N26 thermostat?

Do not seem to find any guide on replacing/troubleshooting F30 N26 thermostat (part# 11-53-8-635-689). I know it's not rocket science, but it can make the difference between 2-3 hours vs. 5-6 hours of labor if I know what I am doing.

I am at 70,000 miles and have a P0597 code and the temperature gauge comes up much slower than usual so I figured that the thermostat failed in the open position (as designed). At 44,000 miles the dealer replaced the thermostat once already (while still under warranty) under the SIB 11-22-14 recall. There is a Extended Life Warranty to 10yrs/120,00 miles on thermostats for certain models (but my pre-Aug 2013 328i does not qualify according to my dealer and BMW NA), and there is another SIB 12-33-14 with the same issue of thermostats. This would be my 3rd thermostat for this car and if you check the related attachments BMW had been replacing them in large numbers where they had to put a dealer ordering quota on part# 11-53-8-635-689. Do not understand why my particular VIN# is not included when clearly this is a lemon part. Attached below the information I was able to gather.

I took pictures (see attached) of the Code Reader showing the freeze-frame when the CEL code happened to register.

Appreciate any inputs.
