For our stage 2 software, in order to achieve a smooth and uninterrupted powerband we would recommend one of the three options as listed in our post. One of the options listed can be fitted to your ECU software which will apply a patch that can circumvent torque intervention without updating the 550nm/400tq torque limiters in the 8HP transmission software. This is not the method in which we would like to do things, as it decalibrates the internal torque maps in the software, however is one that is offered if the customer would not like to purchase any additional flashing tools or modify any additional software.

So to answer your question, no, an xHP flash tool is not absolutely necessary. It is just one of the options we can offer. To be clear, we do strongly recommend the proper calibration of the transmission software.
