This is what I was wondering too. Although the high beam reflector would still be illuminated a bit from the LED corona ring.

The inner part of the OEM unit has a black plastic housing ring behind the corona ring, and then a "tinted" lens like you said, but I don't think you can see through it. There is no light that comes out of that lens, I think it's purely for aesthetics/consistency. On my previous F30, I did the OEM xenon retrofit, but didn't wanna go that route again for this F30. Below is a post from the OEM retrofit thread, the last pic has a sort of good quality image of the OEM headlight.
