I think if I were going to ride around in a 'vert with the top up nearly all the time, I'd just buy a coupe hard top instead. It's nice to have the option of dropping the top, but I can't see myself dropping the extra coin just to do that a couple to half a dozen times a year.
I've had a few convertibles, and I've had the top up on them maybe a collective 5% of the time. I just think proper four seat convertibles look too stretched out and the back goes all saggy, like the E93 in profile. The exception are cars that only have a rear seat in theory, like the Bentley, 911 or Jag XK. Thankfully all of those have cloth roofs, which to my eyes, look much better.
