Oil usually weeps from the shaft seals, not the cover. For me both side seals were replaced soon after the pictures and it has been dry since. I was told there has also been leaking front (pinion) seals but in my case that one was fine.
Mine was done by the indy garage I always use and paid by the company where I bought the car from, I saw the quote it was about $250 parts (two seals and bmw G1 hypoid oil) and $250 labor. Those are his list prices as it was not me paying.
