Friday, time for documenting another mod. This time it's the illuminated LCI HVAC trim panel (64119358940) update.
I built a harness using aftermarket TE Connectivity MQS connectors and pins. Parts list I used:
- 2x TE Connectivity AMP uncoded pin housing 3 POL p/n 1-968700-1 (61136931929)
- 2x TE Connectivity AMP socket housing uncoded 3 POL p/n 1-1718346-1 (61138377072)
- 3x TE MQS Connection Socket 0,2- 0,35MM˛ [20- 24awg] p/n 5-928999-1 (61138369696)
- 3x TE MQS Pin Contact 0,2- 0,35MM˛ [20- 24awg] p/n 1-928918-1 (61131383672)
- 3x TE MQS Pin Contact 0,5-0,75 MM˛ [18- 20awg] p/n 5-963716-1 (61131393723)
- 10cm of Brown 24awg wire
- 10cm of Red 24awg wire
- 10cm of Blue 24awg wire
- 20cm of Tesa Velour 19mm X 15m wire wrap (61132359177) <-- ridiculously expensive stuff
The harness was built to look similar to this:
Something to note, I de-pinned the supplied connector that comes on the illuminated panel, and replaced it with an extra 1-1718346-1 housing I had. Simple operation because both connectors use the same pins.
Also, because I HATE shinny Piano black, I scuffed the panel with some wet 1500 grit paper, then re-sprayed the bare panel with a couple coats of Mr. Super Smooth Clear ( B530 Matt ) UV stable lacquer hobby paint.
I think it turned out really well. It's very hard to tell the difference between the sheen or color of the factory pre-LCI and the replacement LCI panel.
