If you ever plan on upgrading brakes, I would look for a 19" or 20" rims, then you'll never have worry about clearance. on the other hand, if no plans on brakes 18" is fine. as for tire size for xdrive I run 225/45 r18 msport square & 225/40 F, 255/35 R 19" & 225/35 f 255/30 r 20" all with Mperformance brake kit and lowered H&R
