If things go really wrong it will be the end of Bernie's control over Formula 1 because this is entirely his doing. He seriously believes he is F1 and when you get that much hubris you start taking bad risks because you think you're way more clever than everyone else. The sponsors will hang him out to dry in a heartbeat if a serious incident happens while the whole world is watching.
