If you are not doing tracking, I would just follow BMW's guidelines and approved oils. There is not much to gain from asking a forum about which oil is "best" because there is no right answer.
I have been and still using 5W-30 on my E90 despite people saying there are "better" oils out there and I have encountered zero issues with its performance or drivability.
