My reasoning is that this increases the odds of lubricant moving to the sticky part(s) in various extended/folded positions of the regulator.
So far this seems to work OK(no squeaks so far).

yeah you usually have to saturate it as the linings absorb some and also you want it to flow down to everything (and remove some debris) and not just stuck in the channel..
