Tried again this morning and all was good apart from the center speaker not working , for about 5 mins then the crackling and burning smell started again followed by silence from the HU.
On the phone to BMW assist , car booked into the local dealers for a look and a 216 GT is now parked in the driveway where the 440 sat.
We will wait to see what they have to say over the next few days.
