If you are looking at Hyundai's, why not look at the '06-'10 style Sonata. Carmax has a number of them around $12k, which surely means that you could fine one elsewhere for close to $10k. I would guess it would be a decent step up from the Accent/Elantra. I think they have received decent reviews. I think most newer Hyundai's have a 5yr/60k mile bumper-to-bumper and a 10yr/100k miles powertrain warranty, which is quite good. (Actually that warranty on the new Sonata turbo is great... warrantying a turbocharged powertrain for 100k is pretty damn good).
