I went to NC State and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. My parents live in Winnabow and my sister and her family live in Supply. I知 moving back to NC for a few reasons.

1. My father is getting up in age and is having a hard time taking care of the homestead. Doing simple things like yardwork has become a struggle since his back surgery.
2. My wife and I want to make a baby so it would be nice to be close to family. Grandparents are a huge help.
3. My parents are going to give my wife and I land to build on in Winnabow (small house, big shop ;-)

I知 unsure of how it痴 all going to play out, but it痴 looking like I値l most likely find work in the Raleigh area. I知 an experienced mechanical design engineer (consumer and commercial product design) and there isn稚 much work in the Wilmington area. There are tons of opportunities in Raleigh. I知 working on starting my own consulting business, so I can work from home and live in Winnabow full time, but until that picks up steam I値l need some steady income.
Welcome to the Wilmington area and Brunswick County! I live very close to Winnabow here in Brunswick Forest, which is part of Leland. I'm retired, but I had been working remotely for several years prior. We'll have to meet up when you get here.

BMW of Wilmington is on New Centre drive, and they have a very good service department. I can give you the name of my Service Advisor, and I'm sure he'll take care of you. I've also got Extended Warranty out to 2020, but for things like oil change, brake fluid/coolant flush, etc., Wilmington Motor Works will save you some $$$.

There are some good companies in the area, notably Corning (fiber optics), PPD (pharma research), and a number of smaller ones. The job market is tight, but it's out there. Raleigh has more opportunities, as does Charlotte, but there should be some remote-worker jobs out there, particularly if you start your own firm.

It's good that you have family nearby, and you will probably enjoy the slower pace of life down this way and the absence of Interstates, except for I-140, which will take you from south of Leland on US 17 directly across the river to the north side of Wilmington and connect with I-40 to Raleigh. It's opening next month.

PM me and I'll send you some contact info for BMW of Wilmington, etc.
