Just a FYI for others trying the single rear approach, my rims are always corroded around the wheel hub when I swap my summers for winters. They never just fall off, and require some pretty substantial "abuse" to break them free. I would never try that with a single bottle jack.

This is a good point, for sure.
Im in a warmer climate currently and even when I was out west in the snow, had my wheels off enough to not have a ton of corrosion (every 5k miles).
I still do have to give mine a gentle mule kick (standing backwards) to get them off... full disclosure.
If that did not work, I agree with you... STOP and bring the car down. Not worth going full retard mode and making a mess!
