I used to have one of their boxes on my old 350d Merc, it was a fair while ago when you had to open the box & move the jumper pins around for various settings !!... but although that was a pain once set it worked very well.
Think the maps are set to suit different owners requirements, whether you want power lower in the rev range of higher up etc. I settled on a map that really just gave the car more of what it already had, so with the foot down it was relentless power until you lifted.
