Just like any other car, you have to code out these fault codes. All VWs would throw fault codes but tuners could change the coding for the sensors. I'm assuming BMW would be the same way? I've heard people talk about doing that in the US with the E90 335d. For sure they aren't
just putting a blocking plate on the EGR. It's always been more complicated than that.
