It does not lock out eighth gear. Just speed up and it will shift.
No, grandma is unlikely to see seventh or eighth gear in sport mode. The rest of us can count on 75+ Mph for seven; 100 MPH, eight. Put it in manual mode and shift up early if this is of concern.
The two pull to open the door is inane, but tradition. Push the unlock button first if it bothers you.
