Audi has the same or similar data. It's not a matter of one company copying the other; more a matter of both companies fully understanding their market and responding in the way they think is best. The fact that they reach the same conclusion is a reflection of the fact that they both have very efficient product research functions.

Very well put. But if they insist on differentiating the coupe/convertible as a higher end product with higher pricing, hopefully they go beyond changing the name and body panels. Nicer and more striking interior a la 6er Coupe/ 6er Gran Coupe vs 5er? Longer engine bay to fit inline 6 engines further aft for more favorable weight distribution? Are things like this likely?
If the rumors are true that BMW will produce a 4er Gran Coupe, they will definitely need to differentiate that from the 3er sedan with a higher quality more 'special' interior, hopefully that becomes part of the new 4er Coupe/Convertible brand as well.
