They would have put the new model in then. New one came out in 2015+ cars.
I think I remember someone having an issue about the bearing getting so hot it welded to the cam? Something crazy like that, but couldn't remember if it was timing related. Might be in this thread actually.
What has the shop said? if it were timing related, it'd be obvious.
